A cruise ship with a low carbon footprint and polar spa has called into Portland this morning, the first of a busy month of stops for the port. 

The MV Ocean Albatros called into the port at around 8am this morning carrying around 200 passengers. It is due to leave around 6pm this evening after coming back from Portugal. 

Launched in 2023, the MV Ocean Albatros, operated by  has more than a 50% lower carbon footprint than traditional expedition vessels.

The expedition vessel has ventured to the arctic, Falkland Islands and Svalbard among other locations.

The ship offers two restaurants including a speciality restaurant with panoramic views, a wellness area and polar spa, swimming pool, jacuzzi, pool bar, the Albatros Nordic Bar, an open deck dining facility, modern lecture lounge and other state-of-the-art amenities. 

A "Polar Spa" generally refers to a type of outdoor hot tub, often made of wood and designed for year-round use, especially in colder climates. 

This is the first cruise stop of a busy month for the port, with the AIDAsol and the CFC Renaissance stopping twice, with the Regal Princess, AIDAluna, La Boreal, Norwegian Star also planning stops bringing thousands of tourists to the area.
