Selma Charity League announced they raised $6,000 at their Casino Night event in April for the Summer Reading Program at the Selma-Dallas County Library.
The event, held at Sturdivant Hall, featured casino games hors d’oeuvres catered by the Edmundite Missions, a charcuterie board donated by Mark’s Mart, and drinks, with beer provided by Bama Bud.
Guests also had fun striking a pose in the 360 photo booth by K&D Magical Moments. Selma Walmart donated paper goods and décor.
Becky Nichols, Director of the Library, said “The Selma Charity League’s contribution is just absolutely out of this world. It enables us to be a ‘passport to the future’ for these children and have an incredible summer.”
Each summer, the library’s program serves more than 5,000 youth, offering a wide variety of enrichment activities—from magic shows, science experiments, and literacy events to a petting zoo, juggling acts, reptile exhibits, ballet performances, ice cream making and more. These experiences provide fun, educational access right here in our local community.
Signature Project Chair Ashley Williard said, “We were so excited to have had such a successful event to raise money for such important work being done by our local library. These summer initiatives truly give access to some really neat experiences for our youth. The Selma Charity League is blessed to be a part of helping these resources come to Selma.”
Over the 2024–2025 League year, 20 active members completed over 700 volunteer hours, supporting local organizations throughout the community.
