FREE GUN LOCK DISTRIBUTION | For a limited time while supplies last, you can get up to two cable gun locks at no cost, at any Ventura County Library (VCL) branch. Gun-related deaths are the number one cause of death for children and teens in the United States due to unsecured firearms in homes. Along with local law enforcement and the library, you can be a part of the solution to help reduce these deaths. To help ensure the health and safety of young people, as well as those who might want to hurt themselves or others, VCL is participating in the Gun Lock Distribution Program. By keeping guns locked and safe from vulnerable populations, the hope is that there will be a reduction in potential deaths. Newer firearms generally come with locks, but older guns that people own or have inherited may need locks. You must be at least 18 years old to participate. You do not need a library card or to disclose any personal information to pick up a gun lock. Please do not bring guns to the library when picking up locks. The Gun Lock Distribution Program is a collaborative effort between the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Ventura County Public Health, and the Ventura County Library. For more information about the Gun Lock Program please contact Nancy Schram, Library Director or visit www.library.venturacounty.gov/things/gun-safety-locks.
