Hall of Fame pro wrestling broadcaster announces he has colon cancer

One of the most iconic broadcasters in professional wrestling announced this week he has been diagnosed with colon cancer. Hall of Famer Jim Ross confirmed the diagnosis in a social media post where he thanked fans for their support.

"Diagnosed this week with colon cancer. Surgery being scheduled in the next week or two. I appreciate your concern and support," Ross wrote.

An icon in the industry, Ross has spent more than 50 years in the wrestling business. Ross is known for his time with the National Wrestling Alliance, World Championship Wrestling and other companies. Ross is best known for his work with World Wrestling Entertainment where he worked for more than 20 years total.

Ross was the voice of the company during WWE’s “Attitude Era” providing commentary over some of the company’s most memorable moments. His legendary calls have led many wrestlers and fans to name Ross the greatest wrestling announcer ever.

In 2007, Ross was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame at a ceremony held at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. Ross has also been inducted into the NWA Hall of Fame and the Cauliflower Alley Club where an award for announcers has been named after him.

Currently, Ross works for All Elite Wrestling where he makes sporadic appearances to announce some of the company’s biggest matches.

Along with his wrestling career, Ross has found success with his brand of signature barbecue sauces, seasoning and jerky.
