The Pittsburgh Penguins are ready to bring forward Melvin Fernstrom into the fold.
Pittsburgh signed the 19-year-old forward to a three-year, entry-level contract on Friday, the team announced.
The Penguins acquired Fernstrom from the Vancouver Canucks in January as part of the trade that sent Marcus Pettersson and Drew O'Connor to the West Coast.
Fernstrom, a right-shot winger, spent the 2024-25 season between Örebro HK of the Swedish Hockey League and the club's J20 Nationell team.
Over 48 games with the top team, Fernstrom scored eight goals and 17 points, earning the SHL's Rookie of the Year. He led all rookies in goals, assists and points.
Fernstrom was originally a third-round pick in the 2024 Draft by the Canucks before the trade earlier this year.
