Mumbai – It has come to light that Bilal Ahmad Fayaz Ahmad Teli (Age 22) stayed without permission inside the IIT Bombay campus for 14 days. Bilal, who hails from Mangaluru in Karnataka, was apprehended by the institute’s security and handed over to the Powai police. Authorities are investigating how he managed to bypass security and where exactly he stayed on the campus.
Key Details from the Incident:
- According to the complaint filed by IIT Bombay’s Security and Vigilance Department, on 4th June, officer Shilpa Kotikkal from the C.R.E.S.T. department grew suspicious of an unknown intruder. When she asked him for identification, he fled the scene. (What were the security guards doing at this time? – Editor) Efforts to trace him using CCTV footage had been underway since then.
- On 17th June at 4 PM, Shilpa Kotikkal again spotted the suspect—this time sitting inside a lecture hall, mingling with students. (How was he allowed to sit among students without an ID? How did none of the faculty members notice this? – Editor) Security guards promptly took him into custody.
- The suspect identified himself as Bilal Teli and admitted to staying in several student hostels from 2nd to 7th June and 10th to 17th June. (What exactly did he do during this time? What topics did he discuss with students? These, too, must be investigated. – Editor)
- The IIT Bombay campus spans 550 acres, with part of its boundary near Powai Lake. Authorities have appealed to officers, students, and staff to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious activity.
